Ireland redundancy payment example (€600 cap)

The €600 weekly cap is the detail that surprises higher earners estimating Ireland statutory redundancy. This worked example shows the arithmetic clearly.

Example assumptions

Reckonable service: 8 complete years. Actual weekly pay: €900. We will apply the standard statutory formula and the weekly cap.

Calculation

Statutory weeks = (2 × 8) + 1 = 17 weeks. Weekly pay for the formula is capped at €600, so the statutory estimate is 17 × €600 = €10,200. Using uncapped €900 would incorrectly suggest €15,300.

What this example is not

It is not your entitlement. Enhanced agreements, disputes about reckonable service, part-time pay definitions, or different dismissal facts change the outcome. Always verify on MyWelfare and with your employer.

Sensitivity

If reckonable service were 9 years instead of 8, weeks become 19 and the capped estimate becomes €11,400. Service disputes of a single year are therefore worth resolving carefully.

Practical next steps

Write down your inputs, run an estimate on this site, then immediately cross-check the official calculator for your jurisdiction. Save PDFs or screenshots of both results with the date visible. If you speak to HR or a solicitor, share the input list — not only the headline number — so they can reproduce the math.

Revisit this page after any April employment-limits update or budget that changes tax bands. We publish a rates-verified date on the calculator tools; guides can lag by days or weeks after a surprise fiscal announcement.
